Monday 31st December 2018
As 2019 approaches it's not just a time to look forward to what lies ahead in the coming year but also a time to reflect on one of our great trips of 2018.
On 23rd May we set off for Scotland and the Hebridean Isle of Skye and Harris.
In our VW California, along with our beautiful retriever Bonnie, we packed for wet weather, but to our complete amazement we had unbelievable sunshine every day, with no rain until we arrived back in Somerset 25 days later !
Our absolute highlight was wild camping on West Harris where Ann spent part of her birthday on Seilebost beach, the morning after we arrived on the Isle. As we walked through the dunes the sight that met us was breathtaking. We were the only people on a golden sand beach looking out onto small islands amidst crystal blue water whilst the morning sun beamed down on us. We felt like we were in the Caribbean.
To wake up each morning looking out from our roof bed at uninterrupted views of sea and golden sands, at a different location each day is what dreams are made of, and our California was the perfect camper to experience this.
After collecting fresh scallops from Uig Scallop shack, setting up camp on the edge of Cliff Machair beach, we set out to bbq our feast whilst drinking Harris gin and watching a group of dinosaurs (guys on stag do !) racing on the beach. Every day touring provides a different and unique experience.
What made our trip so special, was that we were able to share our precious moments with Bonnie. It was the furthest she had ever travelled with us, and only a few months after we returned she passed away, aged 15. Our lives revolved around her and she spread endless love and happiness with all she met.
If your plans in 2019 are to travel with freedom, look no further than taking your camper, or Ours, and fulfilling some of your dreams !!
